Badan Warisan Malaysia 198301009532 (104789-A) is a registered organisation in Malaysia with tax exempt status. BWM was incorporated in 1983 as a company limited by guarantee under the Malaysian Companies Act and does not have a share capital.

The founders of BMW were the late Tan Sri Dato Harun M. Hashim, the late Tan Sri Mubin Sheppard, the late Ar. Chen Voon Fee and Prof. Dr. Ar. Jimmy Cheok-Siang Lim.

The business of BWM is managed by the Council of BWM, as empowered by its Articles of Association / Constitution.

The principal activities of BWM are to promote the conservation and preservation of buildings and areas which have historical and architectural features that form part of the heritage of Malaysia, for the benefit and education of the people of Malaysia. Our purpose also includes creating awareness of existing built heritage and influencing policies to create a conservation-friendly environment.

We work throughout Malaysia, cooperating with community groups, institutions, the private sector and all levels of Government to promote the conservation and preservation of our historic buildings and places. We play a pivotal role in advocacy through a range of activities including heritage education, and we initiate research and documentation of our heritage assets and contribute to debates at international, national and local levels, on the quality of our built environment.

Since 1985, BWM has undertaken various building conservation projects, many of which have won accolades and awards locally and internationally. We have been involved in cultural heritage tourism and the development of heritage walks and tours, as well as the integrated and sustainable management of heritage sites in Malaysia. At present, we operate two heritage properties – the Heritage Centre and Rumah Penghulu Abu Seman at No 2 Jalan Stonor in Kuala Lumpur.
