About the Talk
Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr.) Haji Mubin Sheppard was a prominent figure in the conservation and preservation of historical buildings in Malaysia. Born in Ireland in 1905, he arrived in Malaya in 1928 and served in the Malayan Civil Service until 1963. His passion for history and Malayan heritage was evident through his numerous publications, his roles as Editor and President of the Malaysian Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society, Museum Director, and founder of the Malayan Historical Society in 1953. Tan Sri Mubin played a crucial role in establishing Badan Warisan Malaysia in 1983, advocating tirelessly for the conservation of Malaysia’s built heritage. The Mubin Sheppard Memorial Prize, established by Badan Warisan Malaysia, aims to raise awareness among younger generations about Malaysia’s architectural heritage.

Thirty years after his passing, Sr. Dr. Zuraini Md Ali honors his legacy by sharing her insights on Tan Sri Mubin’s relentless efforts and significant contributions to heritage conservation from the 1950s until his death on 11 September 1994 and his legacy.
